Throughout its thousand-year history the term “stained glass” was applied almost exclusively to the window of churches, cathedrals and other significant buildings. This stained glass motif of Our Lord was taken from the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, one of the oldest cathedrals in Singapore. It was opened by French priest Jean Marie Beurel, designed in the shape of a Latin cross and was consecrated as a cathedral by the Bishop of Malacca. It was gazetted a National Monument of Singapore in 1973.

Today, the cathedral also serves as the home of present Archbishop.
