Singapore’s vision to be a “Garden City” was first introduced in 1963. The idea of a Garden City is to transform the urban landscape into a city with abundant lush greenery and a clean environment, striving to make life more pleasant for the people.
Over the decades, flowering species have been introduced to make the urban landscape more vibrant. Pervasive green network of nature reserves, parks, park connectors, tree-lined roads and other natural areas has made living in the city more pleasant. Efforts to conserve natural heritage have seen four areas gazetted as nature reserves and there has been an increase in wildlife.
The above features come together to support Singapore’s vision of being a “Garden City”, with the goal of beautifying the city while exploring way to make our Garden City more vibrant and engaging for everyone.
