In the 20th century, Singapore attracted an increasing number of visitors due to the growing global tourist industry. Travellers stopped in Singapore on round-the-world cruises and also came on flights that stopped to refuel en route to Australia or other parts of Asia.
The Gate of Far East was the travel booklet in year 1937 containing sketches and information on tourist sites in Singapore and “The Song of the Cities – Singapore” poem by Rudyard Kipling an English journalist, short-story writer, poet, and novelist from Bombay, India.
